
Abra Koch
Abra Koch is a Spanish teacher at Loveland High School in Loveland, Ohio. She has been teaching Spanish For 20 years, and she teaches level 2 through AP Spanish. She believes that cross-curricular learning that helps students to view the world from different perspectives is the way to develop independent thinkers and learners. She uses themes like social justice and the environment to encourage students to see how they are connected to the rest of the world and to encourage them to make mindful decisions based on knowledge that we are all connected. Abra is the mom of two active adventurers (ages 13 and 16). She strives to help her children and her students to look at the world with interest and wonder. She wants to help them to be able and willing to question, investigate and take action to create change in the world. Abra has a passion for exploring the world and immersing herself in different cultures and perspectives. She Is willing to dive into life and all that it holds wholeheartedly and tries to always be grateful and hopeful. This is what she hopes to model for all of the young people in her life: to be brave, take every opportunity that life offers, and embrace the challenges that come along. Abra was a 2018 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow with National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions. She served as a mentor for the National Geographic Educator Certification program. She completed a field study in Perú in summer 2022 as a 2020 NEA Foundation Global Learning Fellow.
Sarah Compton
Sarah Compton teaches science at Tilden High School in Chicago, IL. Sarah earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s in Secondary Education from the College of St. Catherine and a Master’s in Biology from Miami University. Utilizing her passion for science, travel, and the outdoors, Sarah has spent the past 15 years teaching science and designing relevant and engaging curriculum for her students. She believes fostering curiosity and a love of learning are an important part of education that has a lasting impact. She focuses on providing authentic learning experiences, which extend beyond the classroom to help students make meaningful connections to their communities and places around the globe. These experiences include participating in Citizen Science projects, school-wide and community events, interdisciplinary projects and classes, and outdoor activities that include bird watching, camping, and hiking. To further support her work connecting youth with science, nature, and the outdoors, Sarah was a 2018 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow and 2019 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow Mentor with National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions. She participated in an Educator-Explorer Exchange with National Geographic and supported other educators in the program as a community leader. Most recently, Sarah traveled to Baja as an Ecology Project International 2022 Teacher Fellow. In her free time, she loves to travel, bake, and explore.
